Around 1030 my time (MST) my interenet connection was broken, and when I
tried to reconnect I found that all 18 EarthLink numbers had no connectivity
beyond their modems. Grudgingly, I called their tech support and demanded to
speak with an American supervisor. From him I learned that EarthLink does not
own their modems, they instead lease them from Windstream, a major competitor.
So does Copper.net.
This really muddies up the dialup internet picture, and it explains a lot
about why the overall service has been deteriorating since January of last year.
If I could find a way to use my smart phone as a hub I would gladly get an
unlimited data account and do away with the 19CL landline.
