Some quick research reveals some of the reasons I went for the SWD version:
* It has an ED element that the non-SWD lacked.
* It has curves aperture blades for smoother bokeh.
* It has mechanical manual focus, rather than strictly focus-by-wire. (A biggie
for some folk!)
* The lens hood bayonet is different, so the SWD version cannot be used with
the ring flash. :-(
