I'm not at all surprised that happened, as try though they might, the USAF
hasn't had a lot of luck fielding a replacement. Currently the B52 is projected
to continue in use past 2050! Locally, there are rumors running around that the
AF is getting serious about re-engining the B52 with 4 big fans. Certainly a
lot of airlinesa re out there with more thrust than the turbojets on the B52.

This was a bit of a surprise. A retired B-52H down at the Davis-Monthan AFB
(aka Davis-Mothballs) boneyard was "regenerated" and returned to service. It
was flown to Barksdale AFB in Shreveport, Louisiana, and will later be sent to
the Air Logistics Center to be fully refurbished and returned to service. A
second B-52H is currently undergoing regeneration. Here are some news links:
