The scanner landscape is different that when I got mine. My options are
currently very very cheap and ultra expensive. My best option is to buy a Nikon
D850 with the magic holder, oh wait, that does me nothing for my Xpan and 6x6
stuff. Oh well...

There are no currrnet options that can provide a level of quality that I got
out of the minoltas. No, they wern't perfect, actually a damn long way from it,
but still, what's out there isn't much.

No company service for my older Canon scanners, either. I bought a spare FS4000
on the 'Bay.

This confuses me. Just because your old scanners don't work doesn't mean your
film can no longer be scanned. Scanners
are still being made, and "scanning" by photograph with digicam works.

Certainly electronics are involved. I believe the question has been whether
they work properly for a particular device.
