<<This guy has an interesting discussion of panos, & a product called
<<"PTA Assembler" for manipulating them. Sounds good, but I'd be
<<interested in hearing from anyone who has experience with it.

This guy is clearly serious. Let's see, he measured and plotted 1) Panoramas
per year, 2) days between image capture and image completion --mine would
require a log scale on the abscissa.---,
3) Days spent photographing by year, 4) Days spent assembling panoramas by
year, 5) Average panorama Megapixels per year 6) Average component image count
per year 7) Panoramas by lens focal length......and on it goes.
He uses PTAssembler which he constructed. I have read that Max Lyons
independently developed, using mathematical methods, the "recti-perspective"
projection (sounds like a technique used by gastroenterologists) which is
essentially identical to the Panini projection which was rediscovered about the
same time. The backstory is interesting--TK Sharpless was involved with
developing Hugin in 2008 and co-rediscovered an 18th century painters'
technique for rendering wide views in a natural looking perspective . It was
named in honor of Gian Paolo Pannini, an 18th Century Roman painter and
professor of perspective. This projection seems to work very well for many
pano landscapes.

Moose is very very good at analyzing this panorama projection conundrum as he
has the rigor of a physicist to accurately isolate the problems with an image,
the eye of an artist ,and photographic processing chops to make it all happen.
