Aha! By way of an online search with Duckduckgo, I found that gupdate and
gupdatem are services, not startup utilities, and there is no related software
to be found. Using MSCONFIG and then the SERVICES tab, I disabled all three
Google update services. Now I'll just wait and see what happens.
