Probably a long shot but have you checked the connection between the lid and
the and the base unit. also I would check the epson software and see if its
set in reflective mode. I have a 4490 and did have it come on plugged once
for a reason I never discovered. Hope this helps John

If my 2007 Epson 4990 scanner will not switch on its light for transparency
scanning (it works fine for flatbed scanning), what do you reckon might be
the problem?
I see from the WWW that the bulb can suddenly stop, but it has been barely
used over its life. I use Vuescan, which is always up to date.
Any ideas?
