I don't work with E-1 files. But with all Raw files I've processed extensively, I use the reverse work flow. NeatImage
first, generally with a little resharpening within NI to get back where I started. So I have less noise and no less
detail, unless perhaps high ISO and heavy noise. I then most often do any further sharpening I may need using FM after
downsizing for the web.
I don't know what options you have with FM. It doesn't allow intermediate steps, and their steps are rather broad. I use
it as a plug-in on a layer in PS, then may fine tune the amount by changing layer opacity.
