It always has been wacko. But now, we have instant communication to highlight
the insanity, such as in Vermont, where a number of internet trolls jumped on a
_Republican_ state senator for sponsoring a bill to include a high-school
student’s proposed addition to the state motto. According to the Portland
Press_Herald, a ninth-grader proposed adding to “Freedom & Unity,” the state’s
current motto, the Latin phrase “Stella Quarta Decima Fulgeat”: “The Fourteenth
Star Shines Bright.” The trolls, providing irrefutable proof that our gene pool
is way over its limit of fleet-fingered morons, seemed to believe that Latin
and Latino are synonyms, because, as we all know (cough-cough) Latin is the
language of Latin America.
In fairness, others jumped in to provide the idiots with lessons in language,
history and geography.
