Actually, the reason I have heard most often is, "it's not safe because
[insert whatever unsafe thing is the TV news flavor of the week]". Parents
(only in the US? I dunno) are raising an entire generation of kids
basically afraid to do all sorts of things that are freakin' *normal* to be
doing.
