Scratch that. More coffee required.

I meant to add that I was surprised that the DNG conversion did not
include the EXIF data.

Thanks Chuck - I have no definite opinion so far.
The files were posted because two lugger-friends were arguing the pros
and cons of fuji v nikon and FF v APS-C
What I think right now is that the dials and settings on the N are far
easier to adjust.
The fuji is less expensive and lighter on the shoulder than the N was.
The end result for screen display may be quite similar in terms of IQ.
I don't know yet if fiddling with the files in LR is less time
consuming with one or the other.
I haven't checked the in-camera produced JPEGs either - this will be
my next point of attention as the fuji is excellent at that and I had
never shot jpegs with the Nikon.

I concentrated only on the first pair. After converting both images
from raw using only exposure and clarity controls I shrunk the Nikon
image to the same size as the Fuji to be able to make a good visual
comparison. Both raw files recovered from over and underexposure
well. The Fuji raw required a bit less shadow and highlight control
to produce a good histogram. The Fuji image was considerably more
saturated or vibrant. However, the Nikon image looked more realistic
with its more natural orange color.
I expected to see more depth of field in the Fuji image since both
shots were made at the same aperture. However, if it's there, I
couldn't notice it. That may be due to different focus points... or
soft edge oranges may be simply hard to judge.

During the course of one of our famous-the-world-over LUG-debates on
APS-C and FF ;-) I had promised to post comparison shots of fuji and
nikon files using the same settings.
I found time to rekindle my D700 today (16 months on the shelf, so
says LR) and shot 3 pairs of snaps at high ISO (1600 for I wanted
RAW, and it is the ISO limit of both bodies in RAW I think) and
equivalent focal length and aperture, respectively 35 & 50mm, both
open at 1.4.
These are indoors snaps, without any other purpose than comparison -
rain prevented me from taking the cameras for a stroll.
The fuji being small and resting on a table for two of the shots,
the angles may be slightly different.
The light didn't change outside 95% grey, nor inside.
The links below will lead the curious of either list to dng files,
conversion is the only alteration I have made to them.
You should be asked a "mot de passe" aka password, type: charlie
