Follow up:

Hooked up just the modem to rule it out as a problem. It wasn't. However 
it is getting toward the end of the typical 4yr lifespan of these 
modems. I'll keep an eye on it. Revisited the DI624 and determined that 
the power supply was the source of the trouble and explained some 
intermittent problems I was having (and blaming on the modem). So it's 
back up and running fine. Unfortunately I don't have the password 
written down so can't access it without resetting so don't have the 
original config. Not going there. If it ain't broke...etc.
The WRT150N is set up as per suggestions and ready to switch out for the 
DI624. However as the old D-link is chugging along I think the Linksys 
will go back to standby duty.
