That Photoshop Photography Plan at $9.99 per month gives you both
Photoshop CC and Lightroom. Not a bad price, and it keeps you up to
date. No waiting until the periodic upgrade for the new stuff. like
Moose, I just ignore the cloud stuff.

I vowed that I wasn't going to go the subscription route but am very
close to doing just that. There's nothing pressing me to do it (like an
ACR that doesn't recognize my raw files) but I think I'm ultimately
missing incremental changes to the products.

Thanks to all who responded. It is clear that I need to upgrade to
LR5, so I will bite the bullet and do so. As long as I am not forced
in Adobe’s cloud service, it is OK.
You can subscribe, which keeps you up to date. They will offer cloud
stuff, which you may safely ignore, as I do.
