Have you tried shooting some WD-40 inside it?
Eeeeeeeek!!!!
Residue on glass surfaces! Damaged coatings!
And besides, the aperture blades are designed to be completely dry, no
lubrication. It's unwanted lubricant on them that
screws operation up. WD-40 would only momentarily liquidize the oily
components, move them around, then dissolve,
leaving them more thoroughly spread around, along with its own residue.
Parenthetically, WD-40 seems to be widely misunderstood. It is not really a
lubricant. It was developed for the military
during WWII for the express purpose of water displacement, hence the WD
name. It was the 40th formula tried, hence WD-40.
It's great for its intended purpose, and a not bad for loosening stuck
things, mostly when they are stuck by dried out
lubricants. The WD-40 solvents combine with the lubes to make them liquid
again. But then the WD-40 solvents, far more
volatile than the originals, soon evaporate, recreating the original
problem. You spray the squeaky door hinges, they
stop squeaking, for a few days, then need another spray, endlessly. Good the
the makers of WD-40.
Yeah, I know, probably a dry wit joke. Still ...
