65000 images in your library? Congratulations, and welcome to the fold
(although I sense you will be guarded in joining the fold).
I don't for a minute believe that you don't know what LR did overnight - it
has built a relational database of your images and the EXIF data
accompanying them, and will later add to that database any keywords you
might add, as well as all the editing instructions you wish. But it's only
the database that LR tinkers with, not the image files.
Assuming that you asked LR to "Add" the imases on import, nothing will have
moved on disk, everything is still where it was - and you can see that, for
example, by looking in the LH panel in the Library module. See the Catalog,
Folders, Collections tabs? Click to the left of Folders to open it up and
you will see your PC's drives. Click on any of them to see which directories
(folders) have files in them - you may need to open up all the way down the
tree - the number of images in each folderis listed to the right of the
folder name.
Another way, from the bottom up rather than top down, is to right click on
any image in the Library module and select "Go to folder in Library" which
will open up the folder tree in the LH panel at the point where your image
is located. Or select "Show in Explorer" which will do just as it suggests.

I actually own both CS6 and LR5. In fact I've owned many versions of LR
over the years but never started one up in earnest (let it create a
library) until last night. I handed it the top level folder for my existing
images (a by date folder structure) and let it run for 3 hours.
I really have no clue what it did except that it appears to have created a
"collection" of some 65,000 images with no differentiation that I can see.
My original date structure seems to be inaccessible. I hope that's not what
I have to use in the future.
Yes, I understand that there's no problem for me at the moment. I just wish
I knew what the problem will be in the future since I'm convinced there will
be one.
