Chris and Philippe,
I desaturated the RAW image, then edited it as a BW image. Working from
the RAW image gives more options than just starting with the in-camera jpeg.
So, I stand corrected. One CAN have a RAW BW image as a starting
point. I'm not sure what can be done to simulate the color filters, but
I'm sure changes can be made as desired.

You are correct, Philippe. The Olys cannot produce a RAW BW. Super
High Quality jpegs will allow one to use the built-in filter software
to produce a BW or filtered BW image. The RAW file remains in color.

How can you shoot RAW BW with these?
We've had a 400, 410, 510 and 620 none of which did shoot RAW BW for
all I know???
From the start I think you're trying to achieve something that
neither the camera nor any piece of software can deliver. Just a
feeling.
HQ, did you mean high quality JPEGS? SQ = standard quality JPEGs?
these have nothing whatsoever to do with the balance of colours in a
BW conversion.
Well, from my experience, no on-board JPEG is ever a match to what
you can get by yourself, painstakingly sometimes I admit, from a RAW
file properly converted to your taste - in spite of their excellent
reputation even the fuji JPEGs are inferior to well processed raws.
Now, even the RAW file is affected by a glass filter. A yellow glass
filter will dye your file in yellow, modifying contrast in the
process. From there, restore the proper WB and you've already made
some progress. Turn the file to BW. Finally adjust the other channels
to taste and you're nearly there ;-)
For your complete information, the process works (better?) without a
glass filter ;-)
Just use the raw file as is. And play with the sliders, including the
two channels of the WB.
Hope this helps.

What camera are you using?
Not the E510, are you?
I'm primarily using the E-510, occasionally comparing results
with the E-500.
