My frame of reference are the fixed focal length Leica (and lately also Fuji X)
lenses. So far I have only seen one zoom that could compare to those in terms
of optical quality, and that was the 35-70mm Leica R lens I had years ago. The
Fuji X 18-55mm is good too, but note that the ratio on this one is rather
modest as well. There is no free lunch.
