That's certainly another "filter" that can be tried. I don't think the
angle of coverage would be affected provided the cloth covered the
entire flash window and was not significantly wrinkled. The diffuser
effect is not important to me since I'd likely be using it behind an
umbrella. I think it will require experimentation with several "filters"
