"Freeways' or whatever we choose to call them are the safest roads around,
although individual incidents are more likely to be serious due to speeds. As I
said, I've never seen an accident or had a scare on a french autoroute - except
for one occasion at the tollbooths where I saw a queue jumping bump escalate
into a fist fight.
