You want drunk drivers, move to New Mexico. The people out there were
serious about their drunk driving. At least once a week, someone would die
on Interstate 25 between Albuquerque and Santa Fe from an accident caused
by a drunk driver. The local specialty was the "Wrong Way" drunk driver,
the guy who is so drunk he somehow finds himself going the WRONG WAY on an
interstate highway. The blood alcohol levels these guys had were
staggering. A couple had actually died of alcohol poisoning while driving,
and their cars hit others after they passed out.

All the politicians and news commentators were always wringing their hands
over how to fix the problem, meanwhile they had drive-through liquor
stores and all the gas stations sold whiskey. The gas stations even had
single-shot bottles of whiskey for $1, displayed on the counter next to
the cash register! I can't imagine why New Mexico had a drunk driving
problem!
