I use PSE, which I gather uses the ACR engine, but not the current version. As
a result, I cannot import ORF files from the OM-D (yes I know I could give
Adobe $80 to upgrade). I also am limited with LR (if I wanted to use it) as I'm
still running XP and, thus, LR4 would mean a whole new computer (some software
- particularly Vuescan to run my V-ED) and I'd be on the W8 learning curve.
My priority at the moment has been scanning old family slides from the late
50s-early 60s, some of which (non Kodachrome) are now pretty shades of pink.
Most of those slides have not been viewed since that time, so their fun for me
as I was rather young at that time. My PSE (v8) can be slow, especially with
the large files (e.g., scanned slides at 100+Mb). Some of the editing (e.g.,
cloning etc) cannot be done on 16 bit files. I find myself using FastStone,
which may not be so sophisticated, a lot of the time. It will read my ORF
files, but apparently only as 8 bit (or something like that). I recently
decided to try PhotoNinja, which does read the OM-D ORF files. Still learning
about what I can do with RAW files in that.

But do also try PSE. It has most of the photographer's requirements of
PhotoShop (especially Camera Raw) and is vastly cheaper. I've downloaded the
Windows versions a couple times as they've upgraded the release just to see
with it looks like and how it works. I've never noticed any performance
problems with it but neither have I given it anything hard to work on.
