They are normally for rich people -- in the UK, at least, Chuck. They use an
enormous amount of energy as most of them are left on, either as central
heating boilers or just to keep the oven hot.
I've used a coal-fired one for a few days, on holiday, and it was a pain to get
going, but obviously I didn't have the knack.
However, they do last much longer than normal cooking ranges in the UK.
