OK, this jostled my memory as a non emf chip holder.
Try this:
1---- set the aperture on the lens to wide open
2---- set aperture on the camera
3--- press the shutter button lightly to take a meter reading then set
AE lock
-----. set aperture on lens to the aperture set on the camera
5.---- take picture.
I think this may be an emf trick that calculates an equivalent
exposure. I still think the stopped down lens fouls up the metering.

If I understand what you are saying, it does not work for me. Av simply
does not turn around a correct exposure unless the camera aperture is
left at Max. You can put the lens aperture wherever you want and get a
good exposure, but EXIF records max exposure from the in camera setting.
Change the max exposure in camera, and the capture exposure is messed
up.
I seem to be missing something significant in what you are saying.
Sorry.
