I just realized this morning that there are (and have been) a number of cameras on the market that do in-camera HDR. Their capbilities range from trying to extract extra range from a single frame to true 3 frame HDR. Cameras include the Pentax K7, at least 2 Sony models, some P&S cameras, etc. It's difficult and time consuming to find and evaluate them all but they are out there. A P&S camera with 24mm equivalent lens, in-camera HDR and a lightweight tripod would give the budding real-estate photographer a significant leg up on the competition. I read a couple reviews. The review of the Sony a-55 (?) showed a sample that was pretty good but still required a levels adjustment to get the most out of the image.
