I guess I'd forgotten about the A1's half-press focusing time. I've not
used it much lately and when I did use it heavily it was often in manual
focus with the focus ring taped in place for a sort of pseudo hyperfocal
mode... meaning everything in focus from distance A to distance B where
B was perhaps 10-20 meters rather than infinity. But exposure was
always manual so there was no time lost there.
I'm not at all sure what it's like to experience the Canon's autofocus
delay at exposure time because I've had the focus button separated from
the shutter button for probably close to 5 years. I obviously do
experience focus delay but it generally occurs simultaneously with
framing and composition and is really no different than using a manual
focus lens where focus must be completed before pressing the shutter button.
