Do you mean that there is another way? I've center-focused/recomposed with the half-press for the twenty years since I bought the IS-1. Come to think of it, this is just a variation of how I've done this since the dark ages of shooting rangefinders and then SLRs. The holding half-press manouver was originally taught by Dr. Henry Heimlich. It is great for when your AF chokes.
