Certainly so for many. For many others, skewed older, I would guess, but still
including many younger folks, the need of
lengthy time typing means a full keyboard and an upright, decent sized display,

I certainly know lots of folks who use a computer for writing, web surfing,
Skype, email, etc. who are or would be fine
with a serious computer, in the sense of decent sized screen and keyboard,
whether desktop of portable with icons for
those apps.
