I've left aside answers to your other posts, Scott. You've correctly
identified the differences as ones of preference, in my view.
It is a hardware problem: the W2k machines I use are on a verrry slloooowww
network, used by the whole of the station where I work. The Vista machine is a
case of a bloated OS on a totally unsuitable lump of hardware.
