> Don’t forget Madrid (MAD-rid).
Spanish is spoken there! Many Iowa towns have a substantial hispanic
population--like Marshalltown.
Yet, there is no gambling in Nevada, no sailing in Atlantic or
fastfood joints in Hamburg. No canals in Panama, nor any chances left
in Last Chance. (Last Chance is just a cemetary now).
I lived right near Coal Siding and never found it. Denver isn't a mile
high. No pink in Floyd, nor oranges in Orange City. Le Mars is all
about ice cream, not screaming in terror from aliens. And
disappointing to many--no Rye in Templeton. Wyoming is a bit flat,
socks are plain in Argyle, no hats in Derby--but it is brown. Dallas'
neighbor is Melcher, not Ft Worth. The roads are straight in Diagonal.
Those thinking that Iowa is treeless would understand the town name of
Lone Tree but that wouldn't explain Forest City. Pacific Junction?
Nope, dont' even go there. Conesville was NOT featured on Saturday
Night Live.
You weigh the same in Gravity, but Jolley is no laughing matter.
My favorite placename in Iowa? Zwingle.
