I've enjoyed this thread, esp. the bug part. We are lucky enough to live
in an almost bug pest free area. If a handful of mosquitoes show up in
the front yard at dusk, it's likely to chase us indoors. If A mosquito
shows up in the house, we go a little nuts.
My first visit to Maine was in July. Everything but mosquitoes was gone
by then, but they did chase us out of more than one area and cut short
some photography. Since then, we've visited after Labor Day, when the
mosquitoes are back in school.
None were as aggressive as the tiny ones in Brooklyn Marine Park,
adjacent to Jamaica Bay. We literally ran from their lair.
