Reminds me what von Helmholtz said---if an instrument maker sent him
the human eye--he would send it back. Much CA--may answer why so few
short wavelength cones exist---probably only used for color
determination with the more predominant yellow end used for higher
resolution data. What really matters of course is the final
constructed image the brain reconstructs of the external world, not the
retinal image---seems the Great Instrument Maker fixes it in post.
