Copying only involves read operations on the source file. Verification
still only involves read operations on both source and destination.
Destroying the source file requires at least one write operation. A
file opened for read only should give an error on an attempted write.
Like I said, it's hard to imagine how it could occur... although I can
but it's not pretty.
