Just echoing Moose's comments about not needing to use the software on
your HDD. I have 4 external HDD ranging in size from 250GB to 1TB, 2 are
SeaGate, 2 are WD, both run in a plug-n-play fashion, no need for their
own software. In fact, I have often wondered if there would be some
advantage to using the software that comes with the HDD, but I have seen
no need to toy with it. I have copied DVDs, CDs, ISO files, audio files,
and images directly to the HDD from memory card, disc, video camera, and
voice recorder, no need to save to the C drive first.
The only thing different between the 4 is that the 1TB (WD) must be
disconnected by using "safely remove hardware" (per manufacturer's
instructions) each time I unplug it from the tower, I am guessing
perhaps because it has no on/off button. If I simply unplug it, it tells
me that writing to the HDD failed, even though the writing was already
done, and all files are there. Windows XP.
