Yeah, the Vacs were long gone by '53. Last one was late '40s, as I
recall. The aeros were much better, and far less messy. Not a lot of
difference between US and UK versions, except the UK got a wider
variety of nibs to choose from. There was a time when I was trading in
fountain pens that a UK Parker 51 with a broad stub nib would bring
large bucks. I don't know how the market is now.
