Yes, that's right.... By putting the cameras in front of each other and
observing the afterimage of the combined shutter openings when they fire,
you can tell how well they are synchronized, and you can do this at various
speeds.
There was a couple of well-known stereo photographers (two brothers) who
synchronized two mechanical cameras (not Olympus) using relays which were
electrically activated and mechanically pressed the camera shutters. They
claimed perfect synchronization and, to prove it, took pictures of action
sports events in the Winter Olympics many years ago.
The Olympus Winder 2 system is similar to using relays. I wonder if it is
possible to make very small adjustments by slightly bending the pins that
activates the shutters...
