Wow! Another stereo photographer! I just got into this (last month). I have
just now acquired the winder 2's and I will be experimenting soon. My first
question when I joined this list was regarding the synchronization of the
Olympus cameras, especially the mechanical OM1 using electrical cords. It
was explained to me that the winder 2 fires the camera mechanically. I am
now curious and eager to check the synchronization.
The test is very simple: You link the two cameras with the winders
electrically linked and the backs open, facing an illuminated white piece of
paper. You fire the cameras (trying different speeds) and look at the
impression as you see through *both* cameras (from the back, looking towards
the white area). If you see a white 24x36 area, then the camera are 100%
synchronized. If the synchronization is off, then you see a smaller
illuminated area or even nothing if the cameras are totally off.
Even electrically synchronized cameras are only synchronized up to 1/125 or
maybe 1/250 if you are lucky (this is considered excellent). I wonder how
well the Olympus will be synchronized given their mechanical activation.
For what you are saying, they seem to be synchronized at 1/30 for the flash.
I hope they go higher, to 1/125 or higher.
