Paper print, wet or inkjet, is a very different medium than video
screen. I'll not argue which is "better", not just to avoid controversy,
but because they are so different, that I consider the question moot.
If one recognizes the difference and is willing to learn the "digital
darkroom" techniques for digital presentation, the same original image
can be presented in versions that at least have some of the same overall
qualities.
One thing you are fighting here that those using inkjet printers aren't
is the loss of sharpness/edge accutance inherent in that ALL all digital
capture involves sampling and that sampling always reduces
sharpness/contrast/clarity/whatever along edges. As I've written about a
while ago on Zone-10, that means all images captured digitally have poor
edge contrast relative to the analog original. {Try reading starting

<http://zone-10.com/cmsm/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=149&Itemid=1&limit=1&limitstart=1>.}
The human visual system is actually more sensitive to edge contrast than
overall contrast. It can adapt to overall contrast, but edge contrast
gives the sense of detail and sharpness. So when edges are fuzzed, the
sense of clarity and any 3D effect are lost.
Another thing you may want to consider is the color surrounding the
image. It can have a considerable impact on how the image looks.
Consider this eample I made a while ago.
<http://www.moosemystic.net/Gallery/Others/JohanM/Frame.htm> Just
tossing images up on a blank white screen has an effect on them.
As further illustration of what I'm talking about, I've made a couple of
different versions of your Beach Detail. First, I've simply changed the
border to black. To my eye, that in and of itself changes the feel of
the image. Then I've adjusted several image parameters to create a more
video oriented version.

I don't claim my versions are better or that you should adopt any of
them. In fact, if it were my image, I would probably back off the final
one a bit. Rather, they are intended to illustrate alternative
approaches that may give you ideas of how to present your print images
for your web viewers.
