3000 lumen or thereabouts and stay away from DLP. I still prefer the Sanyos
as the image-quality tends to be a bit higher quality. I would recommend a
venue-class projector--even one that is several years out over the
hyper-portables. Size does matter and as a general rule, the larger the
better.
I've installed several Hitachi CP-X401 projectors, and they are a pretty
decent bang-for-the-buck at around $800-850 in the brightness and evenness
arena, but the lenses just aren't sharp enough when you are projecting to a
12' or larger diagonal. All of these sub-$2000 projectors do not have good
enough lenses (other than the Sanyos) to sharply resolve the grid.
