Hmmm. You are correct and obviously more sensitive to it than I am.
Looked at that critically, the 300/4.5 also exhibits some purple
fringing in the same (very high contrast) areas. I wonder is this lens
or 5D sensor? Anyhow, after printing your crop at 300 ppi (2 x 1.4"
image, which would make a full image print of approx. 10x16) I can no
longer see the fringe. But if I ress it up to twice the size at 300 ppi
(20x32" print size I can see it. But I first have to be trained to look
for it. :-)
