They are much more convenient, for sure...

My experience is the opposite... I bought several years ago a LaCie 2.5" 30
GB hard disk (which however couldn't be powered by the USB itself, only via
FireWire) and after 4 months of careful use, it broke -- the retailer
forwarded me to the distributor, and the distributor to the retailer :-(
So far (fingers crossed!) I had no problem with the several 3.5" drives at
home, however they're all in external enclosures -- maybe the heat of a
complete computer affects their reliability.
