Just had the time to read this article (cached by Google).
Impressive. I mean: I didn't know there was empirical evidence that
aldosterone decreased levels could explain hearing loss. As every
hormone does, its blood concentration diminishes with age. Well, it's
long since I last studied endocrine and neurological physio-pathology -
so I'm certainly outdated. It arises specific questions: why the VIII
cranial nerve, and not others? The Na+ / K+ pump is everywhere, and is
always critical. There is anti hypertensive medication which blocks that
pump .... back to basic medicine !! - no, I want to make some scans :-)
I will look up for an update on this. I was more biased to a
degenerative process, either of the middle ear or of the cilia.
Maybe all factors concur.
Thank you.
Fernando.
