All a perfectly good idea, except it will not fix the cigar distortion.
If you read my rant reply to AG, I go into more detail. Or look up cigar
distortion on the web, where there are discussions and examples. It's
simple optical geometry. It will continue to happen with a perfectly
level head and perfect rotation around the lens node.
The solution is in stitching software that corrects for it. Or using an
ultra wide lens
