By all means come and enjoy yourself! Tourism helps our economy out, and  I'm 
sure you'll be welcome wherever you travel. Don't for a minute think that  
people will be upset because you can afford to travel...they'll be glad to see  
you.
 
As some others have already posted, our news media tends to concentrate on  
the negative and the sensational, and it's not as bad everywhere as it is in  
some places. There are places in the US where you have to be careful or just  
shouldn't go, just as I'm sure there are some of those places in the  
Netherlands.
