Tent City? Tourism?
Doesn't that describe most campgrounds?
The USA's nationwide unemployment rate just pegged 8.5%. This means that
some locations are running 15% or so, and others are still at the minimum
4%. 4% is generally considered to be "full employment" with 4% either not
employable, seasonably unemployed (construction in the north), or just
between jobs.
Around these parts, we're doing extremely well. We're hanging pretty close
to full employment with minimal job loss. Of course, the economic booms
usually bypass us too....
The rust-belt state are hugely affected, mostly because of heavy industry
and automotive. The automotive industry in the USA will probably resemble
the textile industry here in a few years.
If we just stop watching the nattering nabobs of negativism on television,
we find that things are actually doing pretty well across this country.
I know that the trucking traffic on I-80 passing through Iowa (which is
almost entirely pass-through interstate transport) hasn't diminished too
much. It's not as nuts as two years ago at the peak, but you still have to
negotiate for every inch of highway with the big rigs.
