I suspect that you had a "moody" E-1.  I've never had a hint of a problem
with mine in hot Iowa summer conditions.  As to noise build up in those
conditions vs winter conditions?  Well, let's just say that my unprocessed
files from the other night looked pretty ugly.  I don't deny that the E-1 is
noisy--it is in winter or summer.  Stay in the ISO 100-400 range and life is
sweet.  1600?  It needs help no matter how you slice it.  I just gave the
images the help that I know the new fancy cameras are giving the images
before you ever get a chance to look at them.  The Sony A900 is definitely
gaming the system--those images at pixel-level, even at base-ISO show
copious amounts of noise-reduction applied.  I figure that if Nikon and Sony
and Canon can do it and get away without criticism, then why not apply the
same standards and methods to "Old Trusty"?
