Loading the Nikon is very easy and the Nikon software, which is VERY decent,
can be setup to auto-scan on input. Just shove the slide in and it takes
over from there. When it is done, it will beep at you.
The roll-feeder is slick. The V-ED will take strips up to six-frames in
length, whereas the 5000 (and 4000) has a pass-through slot and will scan an
entire roll non-stop. The Nikon software is terrific at sensing the frame
locations--Vuescan is not so good for batch scanning.
Just a side note: The 4000 is nearly identical to the V-ED in all of the
specifications. The 5000 is a horse and cuts the scanning time down
tremendously. But the 4000 and V-ED are basically the same box with the
4000's ability to scan long rolls of film.
