Nice idea - but how does one check it when the door won't open?
It's possible to gain access to the film chamber that would allow an
implement entry to force the latch intoopen position with more force
that is possible using the rewind knob.
Unfortunately, it requires removal of the bottom plate, which not
entirely straightforward, as a part of it in the middle front extends up
under the focus ring. So partial disassembly of the front may also be
necessary.
I did all that many years ago, when my XA stopped working. I actually
fixed it. A small, thin washer was loose in the works and had found its
way into a place where it blocked the action. I couldn't see where it
came from nor find anything else loose, so I simply removed it and
reassembled the parts I had removed. It's worked ever since, something
over 20 years.
Unfortunately, I don't remember disassembly details at this late date.
However, I didn't have access then to the exploded diagram available on
Mark's wonderful hardware site.
