I took Piers' advice and ordered the Bedford Photo Club's book from the
lulu.com link below to check the quality of the print. I'm here to
announce that the quality is good as well as the photography. Except
for the cover which is very glossy the paper is a moderately heavy matte
(enough so that the pages don't show through side-to-side) and the
photos are well reproduced. I assume that Piers shot all the really,
really good ones.
I have to confess to being a bit amazed that I can find an item on-line
that was produced in the UK, order it for a nominal amount of money and
have it custom printed one-off in the US and delivered by USPS Priority
Mail. After ordering I received an email telling me that the book would
be printed in about 3 days. After 3 or 4 days (I can't recall exactly)
I got an email with a USPS tracking number. Checked the tracking number
and found it had been shipped about 4:45 pm Friday afternoon from
Rochester, NY about 3 hours drive away. It arrived today (Saturday) in
the 2:00 pm mail.
No question, this is the way I'm going to go for my dad's book.
