As I mentioned in an earlier post, my experience with VWs has been quite
different. There are lemons and horror stories in all brands. As with
cameras and other things, one tends to hear those stories rather that
the unsensational ones. At the risk of further repitition, I'd gladly
trade a little reliability for driving fun. YMMV.

I don't think any VW is recommended as a used car because of reliability
problems. I have a friend whose new VW suffered "electronic box failure"
many times and many tows to the dealer before warranty expiration. When
she started having to pay for them she dumped it. It is a shame because
they are such desirable cars otherwise.
