Have to agree about the poor NA gas/petrol. Nevertheless, I'm constantly
surprised by the power output from the better modern engines. I can
remember when 200 bhp from a four banger meant a 16-valve Ford BDA,
Dolly Sprint or similar in race trim running European 5-star juice or
aviation fuel.

To add to the list of disguised European cars: German models also
came/come with GM badges - Caddy Catera was a rebadged Opel Commodore
and one of the new Saturns is an Opel (Astra, I think).

We have London cabs here. They're so practical and beat struggling with
big cases in a traditional sedan taxi. I believe they don't do too well
in our winters though.

Hmm. You don't appreciate a 6000 pound truck with a Cadillac or Lincoln
badge on it? What is wrong with you? :-)

Bad as it is, we frequently get special "American versions of imported
models for our market. Impossible to get a stylish hatchback here, well
except for the Mini and VW GTI. Clean diesels are always a year away.
Engines have to be designed around poor gasoline. The only French cars
here are the Nissans and a few old Jeep Cherokees. No Italian cars. A
limited range of VWs and Audis. Surprisingly I am seeing cabs in Long
Beach exactly like the ones I rode in in London.
Not sure how they get those in.
